Advanced photo editing, without leaving your browser
Use Photostr to retouch a photo, build a layered composition or create a social graphic. The editor combines familiar keyboard shortcuts with editable layers and an undo history.
- Layers and masks: arrange images, group layers, adjust opacity, use 26 blend modes and paint masks to reveal or hide parts of a layer.
- Non-destructive adjustments: use adjustment layers, smart objects and smart filters. Reopen filter settings, change a filter’s opacity or blend mode, and paint a shared filter mask.
- Selections and retouching: isolate areas with marquee, lasso and selection tools; retouch with brushes, clone and healing tools.
- Text and design: add editable type and shapes, use guides and artboards, or start from 141 design templates.
- Transforms and filters: resize, crop, rotate and transform images; apply blur, sharpening and colour adjustments.
- Local workflow: project saving, undo/redo, browser autosave and recent-file copies help you return to an edit.
Open PSD files and export common image formats
Open PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, BMP, TIFF, PSD and Photostr project files (.pxed). Save .pxed projects to retain Photostr’s editable document data, or export PSD for a layered file exchange.
Export finished images as PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or TIFF. Browser capabilities can vary; for example, WebP export is unavailable when the browser cannot encode it.
PSD compatibility has limits. Many layers, masks, groups and effects are supported, but some text, vectors, smart-object data and effects cannot be edited the same way as in their original application. Keep your original PSD and use .pxed for ongoing Photostr work. Photostr type and shape layers are exported to PSD as pixels.

Yes. Photostr’s current editing tools are free to use, with no account required. Open the editor in your browser to start.
Is this free Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop online?
No. Photostr is an independent online Photoshop alternative, not Adobe Photoshop. If you are looking for free Photoshop-style editing, Photostr provides layered editing, masks, retouching and PSD support in a browser. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Adobe.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Image editing runs on your device. Opening, editing and exporting a photo does not upload its contents. On-device AI tools download a model to process images locally.
Where are recent files and autosaves stored?
