Remove a background and keep control of the edge
Automatic background removal is a starting point. A mask lets you keep the parts it got right, bring back a missing detail and tidy up an edge without deleting the original picture.
Open the photo and choose its layer
Open Photostr and pick a photo from your computer. In the Layers panel, select the picture you want to cut out. A clear subject against a distinct background usually gives you an easier edge to refine.
Run background removal
Choose Layer → Remove Background (AI). The first use downloads a model after a notice. The model runs on this device; the photo is not uploaded. Download time and processing speed depend on your connection, browser and hardware.
Refine the mask
Background removal adds a layer mask. Click its thumbnail in the Layers panel, then paint white to restore part of the picture or black to hide it. A smaller, softer brush helps around hair, fabric and curved edges. Zoom in, but check the cutout at its final size too.
Export with transparency
Choose File → Export As → PNG. Hide any background layers you do not want in the result. JPEG cannot store a transparent background. Save a .pxed project as well if you want to refine the mask later.
What if the AI misses part of the subject?
Paint it back through the mask, or make a selection by hand. Fine hair, reflections, glass and colours that blend into the background can need more work. A mask keeps those corrections reversible.
