Convert a HEIC photo to JPG on your device
iPhones save photos as HEIC, which some websites and older programs will not accept. Photostr opens supported HEIC files in your browser and saves them as JPG, without sending the photo anywhere.
Photostr is a free online Photoshop alternative that runs in your browser. There is no account to make, and your photos stay on your device.
1. Open the HEIC file
Go to Photostr and choose Open from computer, or drop the .heic file onto the page. The photo is decoded on your device. A few HEIC variants are not supported; if one will not open, Photostr says so.
2. Make any quick fixes
This is optional. You can crop, straighten or brighten the photo before converting it. The first photo edit guide covers the basics.
3. Export as JPG
Choose File → Export As, set the format to JPEG and pick a quality. Around 80 to 90 is a good balance of size and detail for most photos. Choose PNG instead if you need a file with no compression loss.
Converting many photos
Record a short Action in the Actions panel, for example a resize, then choose File → Automate → Batch, pick your HEIC files and set Save as to JPEG. Each photo opens, runs the Action and saves as a JPG.
Questions
Is my photo uploaded to convert it?
No. Opening and exporting both happen in your browser on this device.
Does the JPG keep the location and camera details?
The exported JPG is a new file made from the picture itself, so it does not carry over the original’s camera or location details. Keep the HEIC if you need them.
Can I save back to HEIC?
No. Photostr opens HEIC but saves as PNG, JPEG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, PSD or its own project file.
